Some artworks hang on a wall. This one pulls you in, and keeps pulling.
PETROFF’S ORNAMENT begins with a single strike of a virtual gong. A small
golden spark spreads across a dark surface and, in a few heartbeats, grows
into a glittering diamond crystal with arrows, crosses and fine lacework,
all born from the vibration itself. Nobody drew it. The sound of the gong
draws it.
Then the dive begins.
The view sinks into the crystal, and inside it waits another ornament, and
inside that, another. Rings open into diamonds, diamonds into stars, stars
into new crystals turned at new angles. It never reaches a bottom. It never
shows the same picture twice. You could watch for an hour, or a week, and
every moment would be new.
All the while the colours drift slowly around the rainbow: amber and indigo
become rose and emerald, then gold and sky blue, and back again, glowing
softly at every step.
WHAT PEOPLE NOTICE FIRST
– It is endless. The zoom goes on forever, in perfect calm.
– It never repeats. Every layer is a new arrangement, so no two moments
look alike.
– It stays in balance. However deep you go, the ornament is perfectly
symmetrical around the centre, like a living mandala.
– It plays tricks on your eyes. After a minute of watching, look away at a
wall and see it breathe. Many viewers describe the gentle afterglow as
the best part.
HOW TO ENJOY IT
Open it in your browser and let it fill the screen. There are no buttons,
no menus, nothing to learn. Dim the lights, sit back, and let it carry you.
It works beautifully on a big monitor, a projector or a TV across the room.
PERFECT FOR
– A calm, hypnotic backdrop for your studio, gallery or living room
– Meditation, slow breathing and winding down at the end of the day
– Live music, DJ sets and parties that need visuals with a soul
– Waiting rooms, lobbies and shop windows that deserve more than a slideshow
– Anyone who loves kaleidoscopes, mandalas and a little everyday magic
THE STORY BEHIND IT
PETROFF’S ORNAMENT grew from a simple question: what if a gong’s ripple had
no edge and no centre, and every ring hid a smaller, inverted copy of
itself, forever? The answer turned out to be an ornament that writes
itself, grows from its own echo, and invites you to fall into it.
Strike the gong. Let go. Fall forever.
A gentle note: this piece uses continuous motion and fine patterns. If you
are sensitive to flicker or motion, take breaks, or enjoy it in a smaller
window.
